Platforms' inaugural event, held on October 13th  at Aloki, celebrated Bangladesh's vibrant art scene with artworks of over 25 artists, including Nisar Hossain, Mohammad Iqbal, Farida Zaman, and renowned painter Zainul Abedin’s. The event also highlighted emerging talents like Sumon Wahed, Sulekha Chowdhury, and Soma Surovi Jannat, embodying Platforms' goal of nurturing creativity and innovation in Bangladesh's art scene.

The 'Zainul Utsab 2023' held at the Faculty of Fine Art (FFA) of Dhaka University was a vibrant commemoration of the 109th birth anniversary of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin. The three day-event, inaugurated by DU Vice-Chancellor Prof ASM Maksud, celebrated the artistic legacy of Zainul Abedin, attracting a diverse audience of art enthusiasts, students, and distinguished personalities.

 

Zainul Abedin, renowned for his powerful sketches during the Bengal famine of 1943, played a crucial role in founding the FFA at Dhaka University. The Faculty of Fine Arts at Dhaka University, founded by Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin, has produced many notable artists and plays a crucial role in shaping the cultural and artistic landscape of the country. It continues to embody the unique identity of Bengali art and culture, as highlighted by the DU Vice-Chancellor in his speech.

 

Prof Abdus Satter and artist Kazi Gias Uddin received the 'Zainul Sammanna-2023' for their outstanding contributions to art education and practice. Additionally, Supriya Kumar Ghosh, a student from the Faculty of Fine Arts, was honoured with the 'Zainul Swarna Padak' award for presenting the most outstanding artwork at the Annual Art Exhibition. Following the awards ceremony, ‘Zainul Mela’ was officially launched at the FFA.

 

The program was chaired by Prof. Nisar Hossain, the dean of the Fine Art faculty, with speakers including Emeritus Prof. Abul Hashem Khan, Emeritus Prof. Rafiqun Nabi, Engineer Moinul Abedin (son of Shilpacharya), Kazi Nurul Islam (Director of Bangladesh Folk and Crafts Foundation), and Mir Nawat Ali (CMO of BKash), among others.

 

The success and reach of 'Zainul Utsab 2023' were further amplified through a strategic partnership with Platforms, serving as the digital partner for the event. Platforms played a crucial role in extending the festival's visibility to a wider audience through various online channels. This collaboration bridged the physical and digital realms, ensuring that the 'Zainul Utsab 2023' resonated beyond the venue, reaching art enthusiasts, students, and admirers of Zainul Abedin's work worldwide.

On March 8, 2024, our community came together to passionately support women's empowerment. We aimed to invest in women, fostering progress. Talented female artists aged 16 and above were invited to join our month-long art competition, "Empower Her: Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress," showcasing their creativity through up to 3 submissions. Organized by Platforms and Charukola, supported by UN Women Bangladesh, and powered by ISHO, we celebrated and uplifted the spirit of women.

The inauguration of the event was graced by the Honorable State Minister Naheed Ezhar Khan from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, while the exhibition was inaugurated by Sadeka Halim, the Vice Chancellor of Jagannath University.

 

Artistic Exchange and Insightful Dialogue

A panel discussion featuring Rayana Hossain, Gitanjali Singh, and Fareha Zeba, followed by a live painting swap involving Naima Haque and Auntora Mekhruk Azad. The event concluded with the prize giving ceremony

 

Artistic Triumph: Celebrating the Winners

Among over 350 artwork submissions, three fortunate winners emerged: Ahsana Nasreen Hoque Angona claimed the top prize, with Anuradha Dhebi as the first runner-up and Rumana Rahman as the second runner-up.

Canvas Therapy: Art & Music by Plat-forms, A Resounding Success at Dhaka Flow Food & Wellness Festival

On May 31, 2024, Plat-forms hosted an exceptional event, Canvas Therapy: Art & Music, at Lamda, Gulshan Club Limited. As part of the Dhaka Flow Food & Wellness Festival, this unique workshop attracted more than 60 participants eager to explore the therapeutic blend of art and music.

A Therapeutic Blend of Art and Music :

Under the guidance of renowned art facilitator Fareha Zeba, participants engaged in a creative journey designed to relieve stress and foster deeper connections. The workshop provided a tranquil space where the soothing melodies of music complemented the creative process of painting, allowing participants to express their emotions freely and connect on a deeper level.

Comprehensive Art Materials

To ensure a seamless creative experience, Plat-forms provided all necessary art materials, including paper, watercolors, brushes, and color plates. This thoughtful provision allowed participants of all skill levels to fully immerse themselves in the therapeutic process without any logistical concerns.

Spotlight on Renowned Bangladeshi Artists

In addition to the workshop, Plat-forms featured a stall promoting ten renowned Bangladeshi artists, such as Kanak Chanpa Chakma, Mohammad Eunus, Nisar Hossain, and Ahmed Shamsuddoha, Maksuda Iqbal Nipa, Auntora Mehrukh Azad, M F I Mazumder Shakil. This stall showcased the rich cultural heritage and artistic talent of Bangladesh, drawing significant attention from festival attendees.

A Transformative Experience

Canvas Therapy: Art & Music was more than just a workshop; it was a transformative experience. The combination of art and music provided a holistic approach to therapy, promoting mental well-being, reducing stress, and fostering a sense of community among participants. The event was a testament to the healing power of creativity and the profound impact of art on emotional well-being.

Plat-forms' successful Canvas Therapy workshop has set a precedent for future events that blend creativity with therapeutic practices. The overwhelming positive response from participants highlights the need for more such initiatives that promote mental health and well-being through art.

Officially opened on July 14th, this unique exhibition is an artistic conversation between two mediums, where Shakoor Shah’s paintings and Bimol Guha’s poetry complement and enhance each other, creating a holistic sensory experience for the audience.

Poetry from the Hospital Bed: Bimal Guha’s Lyrical Journey

Poet Bimol Guha’s battle with the coronavirus inspired profound poetry, exploring vulnerability, resilience, and life's fragility. His emotionally rich verses counterpoint Shakoor’s visual narratives, capturing the intimate struggles of the pandemic. Guha's work resonates with the shared human experience of isolation, fear, and hope, offering a deeply personal yet universally relatable perspective.

Art in Isolation: Shakoor Shah’s Visual Narratives

Meanwhile, confined to his home during the COVID-19 lockdown, Shakoor Shah turned his solitude into a canvas of vibrant expressions. Inspired by Bimol Guha's poems, his colorful paintings reflect the beauty, despair, hope, and introspection of life during isolation. Shah’s visual art captures the essence of the pandemic experience, portraying a journey from despair to hope, and illustrating the transformative power of creativity in times of crisis.
