Monirul Islam, a Spanish-Bangladeshi artist, is celebrated globally for his innovative etching techniques. He graduated from the East Pakistan College of Arts and Crafts and later received a scholarship to the Madrid Academy of Fine Arts in 1969. Over four decades, he developed a unique artistic style, earning him the Calcografia National Award of Spain in 1997, a first for a non-Spanish artist. His accolades include the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Award (1985), Ekushey Padak (1999), and the Hamidur Rahman Smriti Puraskar (2007). Monirul Islam's artistry has been honored internationally, and he received the Cross of Officer of the Order of Queen Isabella in 2010 and the Royal Spanish Order of Merit in 2018. He divides his time between Dhaka and Madrid, serving as a cultural bridge between two worlds.
