Kalidas Karmakar (January 10, 1946 – October 18, 2019) was a Bangladeshi artist of international repute, celebrated for his pioneering work in printmaking, mixed media, and conceptual art. Throughout his prolific career, he received numerous accolades both nationally and internationally. Among his most prestigious honors are the Ekushey Padak (2018), the second-highest civilian award in Bangladesh; the Shilpakala Padak (2016) from the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy; the Sultan Gold Award (2015); and the Kibria Lifetime Achievement Award (2018). In addition to these, he garnered multiple awards and recognitions from institutions across France, Japan, India, Poland, and other countries, reflecting his global artistic impact. Karmakar’s work is widely praised for its synthesis of Eastern philosophical depth with contemporary visual expression.
